VESTAL, N.Y. - Hot-shooting Manhattan (9-5) opened the game on a 27-4 tear and shot 61 percent in the second half to roll past Binghamton 94-51 Friday at the Events Center. The Jaspers, who have won six of their last seven, stormed out of the gate and built a 43-13 cushion by intermission. Six Manhattan players reached double figures, led by George Beamon, who netted a game-high 19 points.

Binghamton (0-12) managed just four field goals in the first 20 minutes (4-of-22) and fell into a 30-point halftime hole. The Bearcats shot 39% in the second half and put 38 points on the board but the Jaspers’ quickness and high-octane offense was the difference.

Junior guard Jimmy Gray led three BU players in double figures with a season-high 15 points. Gray scored 13 of those points after halftime and connected on 5-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. He also chipped in three assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Robert Mansell contributed 14 points and freshman guard Chris Longoria added 13 points and three assists.

“It’s a struggle right now,” head coach Mark Macon said. “We came out lethargic and on our heels. We took care of the ball better in the second half but they were doing everything right. We were doing everything.. slow. We didn’t see things. We need to continue to play hard and get better. I think we’ll be ready for conference play though. I think our players want it to come.”

Binghamton hosts Maine to kick-off America East play Monday night. The BU women begin the doubleheader at 5 p.m. against the Black Bears, followed by the men’s tip-off at approximately 7:15 p.m.
