VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton basketball will begin its postseason against UMBC in the first-round game Thursday night at Hartford’s Chase Family Arena. The 8-9 seed game, set to begin at approximately 8:15 p.m., is a repeat of last year’s first-round game, which BU won 91-65 thanks to a tournament-record 17 three-pointers.
The winner of the first-round contest will advance to the quarterfinal round to face No. 1 Stony Brook (20-8, 14-2 AE) on Saturday, March 3 at 12:05 p.m.
The Bearcats closed out their regular season with a nine-point loss at New Hampshire on Sunday, playing without injured leading scorer Robert Mansell. Binghamton got in the win column last Tuesday with a 57-53 triumph over visiting Vermont, which went 13-3 to finish second.
Binghamton is 6-6 all-time in the America East tournament. The Bearcats advanced to the semifinals in 2005 and 2006 and captured the 2009 title. After knocking off No. 8 UMBC last season, BU came up short in its upset bid of No. 1 Vermont, losing 57-46 in the quarterfinals.
