Bethany Beach, Del.- The Binghamton men’s golf team jumped two spots Saturday at the Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club in Bethany Beach, Delaware, and in the process, earned their third top-5 finish of the season. The Bearcats fired a 283 team score Saturday afternoon, singling the best team score posted over the entire weekend. Sophomore Bryce Edmister recorded a final round score of 70 (-2), finishing tied for sixth place out of a tournament field of 69 individuals. The lefty secured his second top-10 finish of the season. The University of Pennsylvania came away with the team tournament title with rounds of 290-289-287. Penn’s Max Marsico won the individual tournament crown shooting four-under par during the 54-hole tournament.
Coming into Saturday, Binghamton sat in 7th place behind Hofstra (five strokes) and La Salle (10 strokes). Thanks to the outstanding play of both Edmister and junior David Cellura, the Bearcats turned in a third round score that was 14 strokes better than La Salle and an impressive 17 strokes better than Hofstra out of the CAA. Cellura turned in a career-best tying 67 (-5), as he jumped from 39th to 12th place during the final round. Cellura dominated on par-5 scoring (four-under par), including the team’s only eagle all weekend long.
