Men’s Lacrosse Finalizes Incoming Recruiting Class
Bearcats and head coach Scott Nelson welcome 12 freshmen to the program

VESTAL, NY—The Binghamton University men’s lacrosse program has signed 12 student-athletes for the class of 2017. Third-year head coach Scott Nelson and his staff has brought in a group consisting of five in the midfield, three on the attack and defensive side, and one goalie. Binghamton’s class comes in highly touted, including four future Bearcats who were recognized by US Lacrosse as All-Americans in 2013.
“I’m very excited about what this group can bring to the table,” head coach Scott Nelson said. “It’s an extremely athletic group who comes in with a lot of success at the high school level. I think we’ve brought in a lot of high quality character guys who are not only standout athletes, but also strong students as well.”
Matthew Berry- 6-0/180- D- Rockville Centre, NY
(South Side HS)
A three year letterwinner on defense for South Side high school. Earned All-County and Team MVP honors in 2013. In addition, Berry was a member of the National Honor Society at South Side.
Tanner Cosens- 6-1/185- G- Endwell, NY
Started all four years in goal for local Maine Endwell high school. Was named a US Lacrosse All-American in 2013 after making 220 stops in goal. A three-time section IV All-Star who was also named a Brine Underclassmen All-American in 2012. He ranks 22nd all time in career saves in New York state with 873 and has a Goals Against Average of 6.690 in 71 games played. In 2012 as a junior, he guided Maine Endwell to a an overall record of 16-2.
Tyler Deluca- 5-9/165- M- Medord, NY
Lettered all four years at Comsewogue HS. Earned Suffolk County All-American and All-County honors as a senior. Helped lead squad to a 15-2 record as a team captain in 2013. Member of the Under Armour Rising Sophomore and Junior national teams and also played in the All-American Lacrosse National Classic in 2011. Inducted into the National Spanish Honor Society.
Sean Gilroy- 6-1/200- A- East Northport, NY
Two-time All-County selection and an honorable mention All-American. Scored 53 goals and dished out 25 assists during senior campaign. Third all-time in school history for points with 210 over four-year career. Competed in the Rising Senior Long Island Showcase with fellow recruit Jesse Parker.
Matthew Kaser- 5-10/165- A- Spencerport, NY
US Lacrosse All-American (2013). A two-time Monroe County (MC-d3) Player of the Year (2012, 2013). Made first team All-League in three consecutive seasons as he registered 299 career points over a four year span for Spencerport HS. Scored 49 goals and had 53 assists in 2013 en route to earning a spot on the Rochester US Lacrosse Senior All Star Game roster.
Connor Keneally- 6-3/200- D- St. James, NY
Played a pair of seasons at St. Anthony’s on their defensive back line. Was an All-League performer this past spring. In the classroom, Keneally was on the Dean’s List.
Kenny King- 6-0/180- M- Vestal, NY
An All-League performer at section IV Vestal HS. Guided school to a sectional championship in his senior season. Graduated as the top senior male in his class.
Daniel Mazurek- 5-10/185- M/FO- Ringwood, NJ
(Don Bosco Prep)
Three year starter at Don Bosco Prep. Second team All-State selection and a first team All-County pick as a senior. Earned second team All-County honors in 2012. Won 70 percent of his faceoffs and registered four goals and seven assists in 2013.
Jesse Parker- 5-10/170- A- Dix Hills, NY
(Half Hollow Hills High School East)
Played varsity all four seasons of high school. Two-time All-Suffolk County performer. Team captain and MVP during senior campaign. Registered a career-best 60 goals in 2012. Had 172 career points (120 goals, 52 assists) at Half Hollow Hills East. Played in the Rising Senior Long Island Showcase last summer. In addition, he was inducted into the National Honor Society and picked as a NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete.
Luke Pearson- 6-0/190- M- Hastings-On-Hudson, NY
Three-time All-League performer and an honorable mention All-Section I selection. Tallied 155 career points at Hastings (78 goals and 77 assists). Helped carry school to a perfect 8-0 league standing and a record of 14-2 overall in 2013. Eclipsed the 50-point mark during his 2011 season.
John Vakiener- 6-1/180- M- Penfield, NY
A US Lacrosse All-American (2013). Selected on the first team of the All-Greater Rochester area squad. Compiled 44 goals and 40 assists over a three year career at Fairport HS. Played with current BU sophomores Brian Martin and Chris Bechle. Team went 47-7 over three years with the program.
Garrett Waldron- 5-11/200- D- Syracuse, NY
Three-year letterwinner at West Genesee HS in Syracuse. As a captain in 2013, he led his school to a runner-up finish in the NYS Class A State Championship tournament. Off the field, Waldron was a high honor roll student. His older brother, Ben, was a two-time All-Conference player here at Binghamton from 2008-12.
Binghamton narrowly missed the America East tournament in 2013, finishing up their season with a record of 5-9 (1-4 AE). The Bearcats will return all but two starters from a year ago, including five of their top six scorers and a pair of second-team all-conference performers (Michael Antinozzi and Chris Bechle).
