Men’s lacrosse names 2012 team captains

VESTAL, N.Y.—Senior defenders Ben Waldron and Ryan Button, as well as senior midfielders Jeff Donigan and John Clark have been chosen at the Binghamton men’s lacrosse team captains for the 2012 season. The quartet will lead the Bearcats into their 11th season as an intercollegiate program and their first under head coach Scott Nelson.

“This is a tremendous group of young men whom we have been very impressed with as leaders by example,” Nelson said. “All four have shown the ability to be true student-athletes. They are just as successful in the classroom as they are on the field.

Waldron was a first-team all-conference selection in 2011 while Donigan was named to the America East All-Tournament team last May. Clark was a starting midfielder as a junior while Button has been a mainstay on defense.

In the classroom, all four players have appeared on the America East Academic Honor Roll. In addition, Clark, Button and Donigan have been inducted into the National College Athlete Honors Society.

Individual Quotes From Coach Nelson

John Clark
“John is a player with great game sense who shows the younger guys that hard work and a great attitude pays off.”

Ben Waldron
“Ben commands respect through a great effort on the field and shows a real love for the game.”

Ryan Button
“Ryan plays hard all the time. He is leader both on the field and in the weight room.”

Jeff Donigan
“Jeff is playing very good lacrosse right now. He leads our team on offense, defense and face offs. We will look for him to do a lot of things this coming year.”
