Vestal, N.Y.—The annual America East Preseason Men’s Lacrosse Poll was released on Wednesday afternoon by the conference, placing Binghamton in fourth-place with 12 overall points. The Bearcats finished ahead of both Vermont (6th) and Hartford (5th) based on votes from the six America East head coaches from around the league.
Albany, who is ranked in the top-10 in numerous national polls, is the preseason top pick to win the conference. The reigning America East champions received five first-place votes and 25 points in the poll. Finishing second was Stony Brook with one-first place vote (21 points) and in third just above Binghamton was UMBC with 16 points.
Binghamton and third-year head coach Scott Nelson returns a host of letterwinners, including nine starters from a team who finished 5-9 (1-4 AE) last season. Four of their top five point scorers return for 2014 and their entire defensive back unit will be in place as they begin their season on the road at Sacred Heart on Sunday, Feb. 16. The home-opener at the Bearcats Sports Complex takes place on the following Saturday, Feb. 22 against Siena at noon.
