Tournament on Oct. 5-6 benefits fight against cancer

HOLMES, PA.—- The Binghamton University men’s lacrosse program will compete in the seventh annual Nicholas Colleluori Classic held the dates of Oct. 5-6 at Ridley High School in Folsom, Pa.. The tournament, which features 20 collegiate teams from across all divisions, is played in honor of the late Nicholas “HEAD” Colleluori who tragically passed away from Lymphoma in 2006.
Colleluori founded the HEADstrong foundation with the mission of advocating, fundraising and supporting those affected by blood cancers and those working towards eliminating it. A former Division I lacrosse player at Hofstra, Colleluori’s legacy lives on through his foundation and this wonderful event which annually brings thousands of spectators each year to the Philadelphia area.
“It’s terrific being associated with such a good cause,” head coach Scott Nelson said. “Both our coaches and players are really looking forward to not only competing at a high level, but also connecting with the lacrosse community in an important and meaningful event.”
All teams competing over the weekend will show their support by wearing Laces for Lymphoma™. On game day, teams are led by an honorary captain who is either a survivor or patient of cancer. In addition, the Colleluori family delivers a heartfelt address to all of the participants and attendees during the HEADstrong Ceremony. During the ceremony a member from each team will be selected as the recipient of the Nicholas Colleluori Award, which is presented annually to a player from each participating team whose contributions both on and off the field are transforming the landscape of their represented program.
Binghamton is one of seven Division I programs competing, of which include: Hofstra, Lafayette, Monmouth, Saint Joseph’s, Villanova and VMI. They are scheduled to play in two games over the weekend, with game action beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Admission can be purchased at the ticket booths on event day. All proceeds will support the HEADstrong Foundation™.
