Men’s Soccer Announces 2012 Schedule

VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton men’s soccer team has announced its 2012 schedule and the Bearcats open up on Friday, August 24 with a 5 p.m. game at Colgate. The 17-game regular-season slate includes eight home games at the Bearcats Sports Complex, beginning with an August 28 contest against Syracuse at 7 p.m.

“Ever since we closed out last season with a great win over Boston, we have been looking forward to kicking off the (2012) season,” head coach Paul Marco said. “We had a very good spring and grew a lot as a team. We believe we have a great non-conference schedule that will help us to prepare for the America East schedule.”

Other non-conference home games come against Hofstra on Sept. 7, Cornell on Sept. 19 and Bucknell on Oct. 30. Hofstra is a first-time opponent for the Bearcats during their 11-year NCAA Division I era.

On the road, Binghamton heads to Buffalo on August 31 and Adelphi on Sept. 22. The Bearcats and Bulls last met in 2002 while the game at Adelphi marks a rematch of last year’s Homecoming game at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

In addition, Binghamton travels to the UNC-Wilmington Tournament Sept. 14-16. The Bearcats face Appalachian State on Sept. 14 and the host school two days later. The Mountaineers, who went 10-5-4 last season, are a first-time opponent while the host Seahawks were Binghamton’s season-opening opponent in 2010.

As for the America East Conference portion of the schedule, Binghamton opens up at home against New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 29. Other home conference games come against defending champion Stony Brook on Oct. 10, Vermont on Oct. 13 and Hartford on Oct. 20. The game against the Catamounts will take place on Homecoming Weekend.

Road games in the America East come against Albany on Oct. 6, Boston University on Oct. 24 and UMBC on Oct. 27. The America East Tournament starts on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Binghamton returns nine starters from last year’s squad, including second-team all-conference back Trey Jasenski and all-rookie midfielder Tucker Sandercock. Also returning is senior forward Jake Keegan, who led the Bearcats with seven goals and 19 points in 2011.
