VESTAL, N.Y.—Joe Losier scored on a penalty kick 3:27 into the second overtime, leading Vermont (6-4-4, 3-0-1 AE) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (6-7-0, 2-2-0 AE) in an America East men’s soccer game at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday evening. The match took place before a Homecoming crowd of 1,973 fans as well as a regional audience on Time Warner Sports.
Losier’s penalty kick was set up when Binghamton was called for a foul inside of the box. He then belted the ball into the upper left-hand corner of the net for his sixth goal of the season.
The Bearcats had been in control of the match, outshooting the Catamounts 16-6 for the game. Conor Leland, however, made seven saves to preserve the shutout.
For Binghamton, freshman goalkeeper Stefano Frantellizzi made one save.
The Bearcats host Hartford next Saturday night at 7 p.m.
NOTE: The attendance figure was the seventh-highest total for a men’s soccer game in the five-year history of the Bearcats Sports Complex
