VESTAL, N.Y. – For the eighth time in 10 years, the Binghamton men’s soccer team has earned All-Academic Team honors from the NSCAA. During the 2011-12 academic year, Binghamton posted a team GPA of 3.16. In order to earn NSCAA All-Academic Team honors, a program must have earned an overall GPA of 3.00 during an entire academic year.
“This is a terrific honor and I’m very proud of our guys,” head coach Paul Marco said. “The time demand and the academic rigor that our players have at Binghamton is tremendous, and this award shows the commitment and achievement they have toward their studies and that they truly are student athletes. I would like to thank Ed Scott and Linda Reynolds, our Academic Support staff who oversee our program.”
Binghamton was one of two men’s soccer programs from the America East Conference to earn All-Academic Team honors. UMBC posted a 3.08 overall GPA for the 2011-12 academic year. In six of the last 10 years, Binghamton has posted the highest men’s soccer team GPA in the America East.
During the past year, the Binghamton men’s soccer program has also had several individuals honored for their academic achievements. Senior backs Kevin Bunce and Tommy Klim were inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society this past April. Last month, meanwhile, senior forward Jake Keegan was named to the America East All-Academic Team.
