VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Steven Celeste and senior back Robbie Hughes each netted a goal, leading Binghamton (2-2-1) to a 2-0 win over Buffalo (0-4-2) in a non-conference men’s soccer game on Friday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The win extends the Bearcats’ unbeaten streak to three games and also marked their third straight shutout.

Celeste scored in the 19th minute after receiving a pass from senior midfielder Tommy Moon in front of the goal. Junior midfielder Ben Nicholson was also credited with an assist.

Hughes, meanwhile, gave Binghamton some breathing room when he finished off a corner kick by junior back Matt McCoy in the 77th minute.

At the other end of the field, sophomore goalkeeper Stefano Frantellizzi made six saves, four of which were directly in front of the goal from close range. He has now gone 310 minutes without surrendering a goal.

The attendance of 1,200 marked the 11th time that over 1,000 fans have filled the Bearcats Sports Complex for a men’s soccer game since the facility opened in 2007. It was also the largest crowd for a non-Homecoming game since 2009.

“I am proud of our guys tonight,” head coach Paul Marco said. “They fought hard tonight against a good opponent and the crowd was fantastic.”

Binghamton heads to Cornell on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.

NOTE: The last time Binghamton recorded three consecutive shutouts came from Sept. 20-27, 2009.
