VESTAL, N.Y. – The America East Conference has released its 2014 Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll and the Bearcats have been picked to place seventh overall. The voting was done by the eight conference coaches, none of whom were permitted to vote for their own team.
Binghamton, which advanced to the conference quarterfinals for the second straight year, suffered a rash of injuries last season. After starting off 2-2-1, the Bearcats lost midfielder Tommy Moon to a season-ending leg injury. Several other starters spent significant time on the disabled list and Binghamton finished 3-11-5.
This season, however, Moon returns for a final season, having been granted a medical redshirt year in 2013. So far during preseason, the Bearcats have been injury free.
UMBC, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year, was the unanimous choice to repeat as America East champions. Hartford received the other first-place vote.
Binghamton kicks off its season at Bucknell on August 29.
