VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton men’s soccer team has released its 2013 schedule, which opens up against Virginia Tech on August 30 at the James Madison Tournament. The 18-game slate includes six home games and six first-time opponents.
The Hokies mark the second ACC program the Bearcats have played during their 13-year Division I era. Maryland hosted Binghamton in 2006 and 2008. James Madison, who the Bearcats will face two days later, is another first-time opponent.
The following weekend, Binghamton heads to the Washington D.C. area for games against American on Sept. 6 and George Mason on Sept. 8. Both programs are also first-time opponents. American advanced to the Patriot League finals in 2012.
Binghamton’s home opener comes against Buffalo on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. Other home games come against St. Peter’s (Sept. 24), St. Bonaventure (Sept. 27), UMBC (Oct. 26) and Albany (Nov. 6).
This year’s Homecoming Game will be against UMass-Lowell, a team joining the America East Conference starting this academic year. The match will take place Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Other non-conference road games come against Cornell (Sept. 18), Lafayette (Sept. 21), Syracuse (Oct. 1) and first-time opponent Columbia (Oct. 23). In conference play, the Bearcats head to Vermont (Oct. 5), Stony Brook (Oct. 16), Hartford (Oct. 19) and New Hampshire (Nov. 2).
“We are very happy with our schedule this year,” head coach Paul Marco said. “Opening up with the four opponents we are is fantastic for us. We are also delighted to welcome Buffalo for our home opener. This is a very competitive schedule for our program.”
The America East Tournament runs Nov. 9-16. The top six teams will qualify for the event with the top two seeds earning first round byes.
The Bearcats report back to campus for preseason August 13.
NOTE: St. Peter’s is the other first-time opponent the Bearcats will face in 2013.
