BALTIMORE, MD.—The Binghamton men’s soccer team (6-10-0, 2-5-0 AE) ended conference play with a 3-0 loss at UMBC (10-4-4, 4-2-1 AE) on Saturday night. While the Bearcats have one more non-conference game on Tuesday, their post season seed has already been finalized. Binghamton will visit Stony Brook next Saturday for a noon quarterfinal match.
Against the Retrievers, the Bearcats ran into a squad which had won its previous four games by a 15-3 margin. After each team fired a pair of shot on goal in the opening 15 minutes of action, Kadeem Dacres put UMBC up 1-0 in the 19th minute.
In the second half, UMBC scored twice in a span of 12 minutes. Madamou Kansaye scored his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute. Pete Caringi then netted his conference-best 14th goal of the year in the 64th minute.
UMBC was credited with a 21-7 shot advantage for the game.
UMBC locked up the No. 2 seed for the America East Tournament with the victory. Earlier in the day, Vermont clinched the No. 1 seed with a 2-1 overtime win over Stony Brook. No. 4 Albany will host No. 5 New Hampshire next Saturday in the other quarterfinal match.
Vermont will host the winner of the Albany-New Hampshire game in the semifinal round on Wednesday, Nov. 7. UMBC, meanwhile, will host the Binghamton-Stony Brook winner the same day.
PLEASE NOTE: Binghamton is scheduled to play Bucknell on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex. As of Saturday evening, nothing has been decided about the status of the game in the wake of impending weather conditions. Please check back on this site for further updates.
