COLUMBIA, Md. - Binghamton men’s tennis rolled past fourth-seeded Hartford 4-0 in the America East semifinals Friday night at the Green Spring Racquet Club. The top-seeded Bearcats (15-11) will face third-seeded Stony Brook in the championship match, set for 10 a.m. on Sunday. Binghamton will be gunning for its seventh consecutive conference crown.
After weather forced play indoors for both men’s semifinals, the doubles was bypassed and BU won the first four completed singles matches. Sophomore No. 1 Sid Hazarika posted a 6-1, 6-2 win. Junior No. 3 Robin Lesage clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph. Also winning for the Bearcats were junior No. 4 Ismael Dinia (6-0, 6-1) and sophomore No. 5 Eliott Hureau (6-1, 6-0). Hureau’s win was his team-high 22nd of the season and Lesage posted win No. 21.
The Seawolves prevented what would’ve been a fifth straight championship meeting between BU and host UMBC. Stony Brook defeated the Retrievers 4-3 in the first semifinal.
Binghamton defeated Stony Brook 4-1 in a regular-season dual on April 18. The teams met in the 2006 America East championship match, with the Seawolves prevailing 4-3. The Bearcats had beaten their SUNY rivals in the finals three straight years prior.
