Men’s Tennis Completes Strong Weekend At Penn Invite

Freshman Justin Fields went 3-1 over the weekend

PHILADELPHIA—The Binghamton men’s tennis team competed in Philadelphia over the weekend at the Penn Invitational, accumulating an overall record of 25-13, highlighted by a 17-9 mark in singles play. The Bearcats competed in a dual match format, playing four matches against Monmouth/Penn, St. Peter’s/Niagara, Duquesne and Delaware.

Senior Ruben Haggai had a standout weekend, notching a perfect 4-0 record on the singles court. Haggai was the lone BU player to pick up a win over Duquesne, defeating sophomore Corey Robinson, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Freshmen Justin Fields and Frenk Kote both went 3-1 in Philadelphia, including a pair of straight set victories on Sunday over Delaware.

Newcomer Vihar Shah authored an impressive 4-0 mark in doubles for Binghamton. Shah teamed up with fellow freshmen Frenk Kote and Douglas Notaris, helping BU to a 8-4 standing at tournament’s end.

BU once again will be in competition this weekend, taking a trip down to Virginia in the Cavaliers Fall Classic hosted by the ACC school October 5-7. Individually, sophomore standout Sid Hazarika is in Tulsa, Oklahoma this week, competing in the ITA All-American Championships. Hazarika plays Monday afternoon in the qualifying draw against Oklahoma freshman Alexandru Ghilea.
