HANOVER, N.H.—Binghamton men’s tennis (4-3) captured the opening doubles point before gaining a split of the singles matches and seizing a 4-3 win over Boston College Saturday afternoon at Dartmouth’s Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion.
After winning all three doubles matches to begin the day, BU won three of first four completed singles matches to clinch the win. The Eagles tightened the final score with wins in the final two matches.
Sophomore No. 1 Robin Lesage improved to 11-5 overall, 5-1 in duals with a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win. Lesage’s win clinched the match for the Bearcats, who began the weekend with a 6-1 loss to No. 59 Dartmouth on Friday.
Freshmen Alex Maisin (No. 2) and Sid Hazarika (No. 4) won their matches in straight sets. Hazarika brought his team-best dual record to 6-1 after dropping just two games in his triumph.
“It was a close match and I’m glad we got the victory,” head coach Adam Cohen said. “Sid (Hazarika) played well and so did Alex (Maisin) ... it was nice to see some of our freshmen doing well early in the season. We’re looking forward to a week off to continue working on some things but it was a good way to end the road trip.”
Binghamton are off until facing St. John’s (Feb. 23) and Columbia (Feb. 24) in two weeks on the road.
