For second straight day, BU pushes ranked foe to wire

Men’s tennis edged by No. 43 UNC-Wilmington 4-3

WILMINGTON, N.C.—No. 43 UNC-Wilmington (9-2) captured the doubles point before splitting six singles matches with visiting Binghamton (5-9) to escape with a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon at the UNCW Tennis Complex. For the second straight day, the Bearcats pushed a ranked opponent to the final match in a 4-3 loss.

Senior Alexandre Haggai scored an impressive 7-5, 6-3 win over No. 64 Rafael Aita at No. 1 singles. Also winning for the Bearcats were freshman No. 4 Ismael Dinia (4-6, 6-4, 6-3) and sophomore No. 5 Ruben Haggai (6-1, 3-6, 6-4).

In doubles, the tandem of juniors Ruben Devos and Bastian Bornkessel posted an 8-6 win at the top spot but UNCW won at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the doubles point.

Binghamton next heads to Army where the Bearcats will face the host Black Knights, Yale and St. Bonaventure on March 24-25.
