ITHACA, N.Y.—The Binghamton men’s tennis team competed at the non-scoring Cornell Shootout over the weekend, playing singles and doubles matches against region rivals Army, Yale and the host Big Red at the Reis Tennis Center.  Playing without their top player, Alexandre Haggai, the Bearcats went a combined 6-12 in singles and 3-6 in doubles play.

Freshmen Ismael Dinia and Florian van Kann each went 2-1 in singles play.  Playing at the No. 2 singles spot, Dinia posted a 7-6, 6-2 win over Yale’s Kyle Dawson and notched a 6-0, 6-3 win over Army’s Alex Holland.  He improved to 6-3 early in his collegiate career.  van Kann earned a 6-4, 6-3 win against Pat Chase and a 6-2, 7-5 win over Peter Sienko of Army.  The pair also combined for a 9-7 win over Cornell at third doubles - BU’s lone win in nine matches against the Big Red.

Binghamton returns to the Reis Tennis Center on Thursday to begin competition at the ITA Northeast Regional.  The singles title will be up for grabs after the departure of BU graduate Sven Vloedgraven, who captured the last two championships.
