VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men’s tennis sen split squads to two different events this weekend. Four players competed in the UVa Ranked+1 Invitational, hosted by reigning NCAA champion Virginia down in Charlottesville. Four other members of BU’s team took part in the Ivy Plus Invitational, hosted by Yale.

The Virginia tournament, played at the Snyder Tennis Center featured four singles and four doubles draws, and included 16 players who are among the nation’s top 125.

Other schools joining the Bearcats and host Cavaliers are Elon, George Washington, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan, NC State, North Carolina, UNC Wilmington, VCU, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

“It was good competition and will make us stronger moving forward,” head coach Adam Cohen said.

Sophomore 122nd-ranked Sid Hazarika, sophomore Alex Maisin, junior Ismael Dinia and senior Ruben Haggai played in Virginia.

Dinia provided the highlight with a straight-set win over the 51st-ranked player in the country. In his final match on Sunday, Dinia upended second-seeded Harrison Richmond of host Virginia, 7-5, 6-4.

At Yale, players from 13 schools competed in the first-ever Ivy Plus event. In addition to BU and Yale, other teams competing were Army, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Marist, Old Dominion, Penn, St. John’s and UNC Wilmington.

Competing at Yale were junior Robin Lesage, sophomore Eliott Hureau and freshmen Thomas Caputo and Frenk Cote.
