Men’s tennis standout Haggai named America East Player of Week
Senior posts win over ranked foe from Yale to highlight week

VESTAL, N.Y.—Senior men’s tennis player Alexandre Haggai has been named the America East Player of the Week for March 19-25.
Haggai is the fourth Bearcat to earn the weekly honors this spring, joining brother Ruben Haggai (March 14), Ismael Dinia (Feb. 29) and Robin Lesage (Feb. 22).
Playing at No. 1 singles, Haggai knocked off 92nd-ranked Marc Powers of Yale 6-4, 0-6, 6-0 in a dual. Powers was the two-time ITA Northeast Regional runnerup. Haggai also posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 over St. Bonaventure and won two of three doubles matches during a 2-1 week for the Bearcats.
Binghamton (7-10) won two of three matches over the weekend, edging host Army 4-3 and blanking St. Bonaventure 7-0. In between, the Bearcats were defeated 5-2 by Yale.
The team continues its run against Ivy League opponents with a match at 16th-ranked Harvard this Friday. Dinia went 3-0 to raise his singles record to a team-best 20-11. Dinia, along with Haggai were the lone singles winners against Yale. Haggai and Dinia also teamed for two doubles wins over the weekend at the No. 2 spot.
The Bearcats have six scheduled matches remaining before beginning defense of their America East crown on April 28-29 in Flushing.
