VESTAL, N.Y.—Following solid performances at the Army 5-Way Meet and Bucknell Outdoor Challenge this past weekend, the Binghamton men’s track & field team has broken into the United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) Northeast Region Top 15 poll. The Bearcats, who finished the 2010-11 outdoor season ranked eight, debut this season at No. 14 in the April 17 poll.
Freshman Jesse Garn, who is the current America East Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, has posted the top time by a Northeast Region runner in the 800 this season. He recorded a first-place mark of 1:49.16 this past weekend. Fifth-year senior Erik van Ingen, a three-time USTFCCCA All-American, has the second-fastest time this year (1:49.17).
Fifth-year senior Adam Quinn has the second-fastest Northeast Region time in the 3,000 Steeplechase (9:04.52) and junior Casey Gilbert is ranked seventh in the 400 hurdles.
Binghamton splits up for a pair of meets this weekend. Some of the distance runners will head to the Princeton/Larry Ellis Invitational while the rest of the squad will take part in the Upstate Challenge at the University of Buffalo.
