VESTAL, N.Y.—- Senior Rachel Miura has been named to the America East Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team for the 2012 season. She earned the honor through a combination of her performance at the recent conference meet as well as her efforts in the classroom.
To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 cumulative GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
Miura finished a team-best 19th overall at the America East meet back on Oct. 27. She has been the Bearcats’ top runner in all four races she has entered this season.
In 2009, Miura was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society. In addition, she has also been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll each year she has been at Binghamton.
This marks the second time in her career that Miura has been awarded All-Academic honors by the America East. The first time came during the 2012 outdoor track season, during which she placed second overall in the 10,000 at the conference championships.
Miura is the third Binghamton women’s cross country runner to earn America East All-Academic honors. She joins Stacy Kramer (2005) and Katie Radzik (2006).
The Bearcats close out their 2012 cross country season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The meet starts at noon.
