VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior Alexis Murray of the Binghamton women’s track & field team has been named the America East Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. It marks the first time in her career that she has earned a weekly accolade from the conference.
Murray swept the jumps at the Army Six-Way Indoor Track Meet this past Saturday. She leapt 5.49 meters in the long jump and 11.69 meters in the triple jump to help Binghamton finish third out of six teams. Murray’s distance in both the long jump and triple jump rank second in the America East this season.
“Alexis is very fit right now and it was great to see her do so well in her first meet back from the (winter) break,” head coach Mike Thompson said.
In her sophomore season, Murray was second in the triple jump at both the indoor and outdoor America East Conference Championships. She was also fourth in the javelin at the outdoor meet her freshman year.
Binghamton is at the Cornell Upstate Challenge this Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
