VESTAL, N.Y.—Six members of the 19th-ranked Binghamton wrestling team are among the elite at their weight classes as the regular season winds down. On Thursday, the NCAA released its second of three Coaches’ Panel Rankings and the first RPI - two tools that will be used to determine the conference distribution of NCAA qualifiers and the at-large NCAA selections.
Six BU wrestlers were among the top-33 listed at their weights - the same individuals who were included in the first Coaches’ Panel Rankings last month. Heading the group is junior 149-pound Donnie Vinson, who checks in at No. 4 in the current Coaches’ Panel Rankings. Vinson, 28-4 overall, 16-1 in duals, moved up a spot from the first Coaches’ Panel release. His RPI is sixth-best in the weight class, a nod to his challenging slate of opponents.
Senior 157-pound Justin Lister (21-5, 13-3 duals) is No. 9 in the Coaches’ Panel Ranking and No. 3 in the RPI, meaning he’s had the third most-difficult list of opponents in the country this year. Senior 165-pound Matt Kaylor (20-8, 12-5 duals) held steady at No. 25 in the Coaches’ Panel. Junior 184-pound Nate Schiedel (25-6, 13-2 duals) also stayed the same at No. 20 in the current Coaches’ Panel. Schiedel’s national consideration will be buoyed by his RPI, which is at No. 15. Sophomore 197-pound Cody Reed (19-11, 9-6 duals) moved up a spot to No. 31 in the Coaches’ Panel and is positioned at No. 21 in the RPI. Freshman heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski (21-6, 11-3 duals) is No. 18 in the Coaches’ Panel but has wrestled the seventh-hardest schedule (RPI) in the country.
The Bearcats (13-4) travel to Long Island to face CAA rival Hofstra at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
