VESTAL, N.Y.—Junior second baseman Daniel Nevares has been selected as the America East Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
In four games during the week, Nevares hit .500 (7-for-14) with a home run and seven RBI. He keyed a three-game sweep of America East foe Hartford with three extra-base hits and seven RBI.
Nevares belted a three-run home run to pace BU to an 8-2 win over Hartford in the series finale. He also raised his team-best doubles total to 16 with a two-bagger to the wall, and is just three short of tying the single-season school record. With BU up 2-0, Nevares smoked an RBI double to the wall in left center to key a two-run sixth inning and then delivered his first homer of the season one inning later. With one out and runners on second and third, Nevares jumped on a 1-0 pitch and sent it into BU’s bullpen beyond the left field wall, extending the Bearcats’ lead to 8-0.
He also was perfect defensively at second base.
Nevares ranks second in the conference in doubles, third in hits (51), fourth in slugging (.452) and fifth in average (.329)
