Nevares, Ruby gain America East weekly baseball honors
Nevares is Player of Week, Ruby Rookie of Week as Bearcats sweep UMBC to end regular season

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball players Daniel Nevares and Brian Ruby have earned weekly honors from the America East in the final selections of the regular season.
Nevares was named Player of the Week after going 7-for-10 in a three-game sweep of UMBC over the weekend. Ruby was picked as the Rookie of the Week after going 7-for-11.
Nevares, a sophomore second baseman, had an -base percentage of .769 and a slugging percentage of 1.200 for the week and didn’t commit an error during the weekend. Nevares finished his sophomore season with a .417 average in conference play and has hit safely in 12 of his last 15 games. He ranks seventh in the America East with a .341 overall average.
Ruby, a freshman who has played third and first base, hit .636 at UMBC. He had an on-base percentage of .692 and didn’t make an error in 18 chances in the field. Ruby lifted his team-high batting average to .400 for the season and finished his first America East campaign by hitting .397 in conference play. He has a 10-game hit streak heading into the postseason after also producing an 11-game hit streak earlier in the season.
The Bearcats depart for Stony Brook on Tuesday and will begin their quest for an America East title and NCAA tournament berth on Wednesday morning. Third-seeded BU will face No. 2 Albany in the tournament’s opening game at 11 a.m. with the host Seawolves facing No. 4 Maine in the 3 p.m. game. The double-elimination event continues on Thursday and Friday from Joe Nathan Field.
