VESTAL, NY—Binghamton University men’s lacrosse player Tyler Perrelle has been selected to compete in the prestigious United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/LaxWorld North-South Game. Perrelle, a senior midfielder from Mahopac, NY, joins 2012 graduate Ben Waldron as the only other BU player to have participated in this senior showcase event. Perrelle will represent the North All-Stars this Friday, May 24 at Edith Robb Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College.
The event is in its 72nd year of existence, and will lead up to a big weekend in collegiate lacrosse, beginning with the National Semifinals held in Philadelphia on Saturday. The games feature the top senior lacrosse talent across the country; spanning all three collegiate divisions. Perrelle will line up with and against some of the top lacrosse talent in Division I lacrosse and that is a feat he is certainly proud of.
“It’s a great honor to be selected to the North-South Game,” Perrelle said. “I’m thankful I get a chance to end my career in a fun way, representing Binghamton University, my teammates and coaches at this all-star game. I look forward to competing with and against some of the best players in Division I lacrosse.”
The four-year letterwinner played an integral role as a midfielder with the Bearcats. He holds the program record for assists with 55 and was the first player to eclipse the 100-point mark in this his senior campaign. His name is plastered across nearly all the program charts, including shots (2nd), points (2nd), games played (T-4th) and goals (6th). Since arriving here in 2009, Perrelle has seen action in each and every game.
“It’s a deserving honor and also an exciting way to cap his career,” head coach Scott Nelson said. “Tyler’s a heck of a lacrosse player who plays the game the right way. Not only is he a gifted lacrosse player, but he’s a terrific kid. He will represent Binghamton University well amongst the nation’s elite senior lacrosse class.”
Tyler played in 14 games in 2013, dishing out the second most assists on the team with 11. He scored nine goals, including the game-winner on the road at Delaware back on March 9. A senior captain, Perrelle tallied a point in 11 out of 14 contests.
A year ago, Perrelle won team MVP honors after a 42-point season from the midfield. He is one of four players to have a 40-plus point season at Binghamton. He was an America East All-Tournament team selection in 2011 and was named to the All-Rookie team after recording 10 goals and 11 assists as a newcomer in 2010.
“My four years at Binghamton have really shaped me into not only a better overall lacrosse player but a better person. I couldn’t have received this accomplishment without the help of my teammates and coaches who have really helped me along the way.”
The game time is set for 5:30 pm on Friday in Radnor, PA. Tickets for the event can be purchased on site the day of the event.
