VESTAL, N.Y.—Junior outfielder Jessica Phillips has been named the America East Softball Player of the Week for March 5. It marks the fourth time in her career that she has earned the conference’s weekly accolade.
At the Texas Tech Tournament this past weekend, Phillips hit a team-best .400 at the Texas Tech Tournament this past weekend. She finished with two doubles and three home runs to record a slugging percentage of 1.133. Phillips homered in back-to-back games against Texas Arlington and Texas Tech on March 2.
“Jessica had a great weekend offensively,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “She has done a good job with staying disciplined with all of the walks and hit pitches she had during the first tournament (Florida Gulf Coast Feb. 17-19). She got some good pitches to go after this weekend and she was aggressive with her swing.”
Currently, Phillips has a seven-game hitting streak. For her career, Phillips has 32 home runs and 78 RBI in just 99 games played.
NOTES: Phillips was also the America East Player of the Week on March 14 and March 28 last season as well as May 2 in her freshman year ... Phillips is the reigning America East Co-Player of the Year and was the conference’s Rookie of the Year in 2010. She was named first-team All-Mid Atlantic Region in 2010 and 2011.
