Williamsburg, VA—The Binghamton golf team finished only nine holes on Sunday before play was called at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate due to snow. Now on Monday, officials have called off play once again as an inch of accumulation still is on the course. Due to the conditions, the event has been cut down to a one-round 18 hole event; this assuming the course is playable tomorrow afternoon. Teams will tee off at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
As a team, the Bearcats are +15 at the Kingsmill Resort famed River Course. They are currently in 21st place out of 32 teams on the overall team leaderboard.
BU’s top two scores on the opening round came from junior Bryce Edmister and sophomore Josh Holling who both shot 38 (+3) Sunday. Edmister recorded a bogey on three of the five par fours, but managed to play the remaining holes at even par. Holling birdied the par 4 first hole, but fell into some trouble at the par 5 7th hole with a double bogey. He made five pars on the front nine.
Rounding out the Bearcat lineup was sophomore Jack Sedgewick (39) and freshman Jesse Perkins (40). Senior David Cellura also is competing for Binghamton, he shot a 7-over on the front nine.
16 of the 32 teams finished up play on Sunday, with #27 ranked Tennessee holding the best final team score of 285 (+5). However, James Madison holds the scoring lead having played just nine holes at three over par.
Individually, a pair of players shot three under par on Sunday. Casey Olsen (Eastern Michigan) and Cory Sciupider (Notre Dame) both recorded 67’s on the River Course. As it stands, both Edmister and Holling sit in a tie for 48th place.
