VESTAL, N.Y.—Adam Quinn and Robb Quiller, both of whom recently graduated from Binghamton University, have been named to the COSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Track & Cross Country Team for the 2011-12 academic year. The Bearcat duo was cited for their accomplishments in the classroom and their athletic endeavors. Each of them will advance to the national ballot, which will name the Academic All-America Team later in the summer.
During the 2012 track & field season, Quinn was the runner up in the 5,000 at the America East Indoor Championships as well as in the 3,000 Steeplechase at the conference outdoor meet. He was named to the America East All-Academic Teams during both the indoor and outdoor campaigns and was also named the America East Men’s Indoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Quinn concluded his career as an 11-time America East Conference medalist, a three-time runner up as well as a three-time all-conference selection. He was a five-time All-Academic Team honoree, having also been named during the 2011 outdoor track season as well as during the 2009 and 2010 cross country seasons. With Quinn as one of the mainstays in the Binghamton distance program, the men’s cross country team won the 2009 America East title and was the runner up at the 2010 meet.
Quiller, meanwhile, concluded his career with a third place performance at the 2012 America East Indoor Championships and was the runner up at the ensuing conference outdoor meet. During his career, Quiller won a pair of conference titles in the pole vault and was a seven-time America East medalist as well as a seven-time all-conference selection. Furthermore, Quiller was named to the America East All-Academic Team five times during his career.
“Robb and Adam were two of the toughest competitors and strongest students I have had at Binghamton,” head coach Mike Thompson said. “I can not think of two people more deserving of this award.”
In 2009, Quinn was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society. The following year, Quiller was also inducted.
At the Binghamton Athletic Department Awards Banquet last month, both Quinn and Quiller earned major awards. Quinn earned the 2012 Academic Achievement Award for posting one of the top 10 cumulative GPA among graduating seniors. Quiller, meanwhile, was one of six Binghamton student-athletes receive the 2012 SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award, for his athletic and academic accomplishments.
During the four years Quiller and Quinn have been on the Binghamton track & field team, the men have been the runner up at the America East Indoor and Outdoor Championships three times each.
Since Binghamton University began its NCAA Division I era in 2001, it has had four COSIDA Academic All-America selections as well as 12 student-athletes named to the COSIDA All-District Team for their respective sports.
NOTE: COSIDA stands for the College Sports Information Directors of America, which is the organization that is responsible for nominating each student-athlete as well as casting the ballot for both the All-District and All-Academic Teams.
