VESTAL, N,Y.—Fifth-year senior Adam Quinn has been named the America East Men’s Indoor Track Scholar Athlete for the 2011 season. It marks the first time in his career that Quinn has earned the conference’s annual award.
At the America East Indoor Championships back in February, Quinn was second in the 5,000 and eighth in the 3,000. He was named to the America East Indoor Track All-Academic squad following the season.
Quinn has appeared on four America East All-Academic Squads during his career. He was named to the 2009 and 2010 men’s cross country squads as well as last year’s men’s outdoor track squad.
On the track, he earned all-conference honors with a second-place finish in the 3,000 steeplechase at the 2011 America East Outdoor Championships. In his final three cross country seasons (2008-10), Quinn placed in the top 13 at the America East meet each time.
Since 2008, Quinn has been a mainstay on the Binghamton men’s distance program, which has captured the 2009 America East cross country title and was the runner up in 2010. In addition, the men’s distance runners were instrumental Binghamton recording runner-up finishes at four straight conference indoor meets (2008-11) as well as the last two America East Outdoor Championships.
In May 2009, Quinn was inducted into the National College Athlete Honors Society. He has also been named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll each semester he has been at Binghamton.
Since 2003, Binghamton has had 28 America East Scholar-Athlete selections, which are limited to one per sport each year. In order to be considered for the America East Scholar-Athlete Award for a specific sport, a student-athlete is required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.3.
At the end of each academic year, the America East announces its overall Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners. In four of the last five years, a Binghamton student-athlete has won the men’s overall Scholar Athlete of the Year award. Rory Quiller of the men’s indoor track team was honored in 2007 and 2008 and Sven Vloedgraven of the men’s tennis team was the winner the past two years.
