Sophomore Sara Kohtz went 2-0 Saturday

Day One Press Release

Ithaca, N.Y.—Binghamton was eliminated from winners bracket competition on Saturday, but shined in consolation action during the second day of the Cornell Winter Invite. The Bearcats went a combined 8-3 in singles consolation, highlighted by four players who compiled perfect 2-0 records.

Sara Kohtz racked up a pair of victories from the Reiss Tennis Center, collecting straight set wins (both over Niagara). Fellow sophomores Alexis Tashiro and Shea Brodsky went a combined 4-0 on the singles court. Tashiro had an impressive comeback win over Maria Ortiz of Niagara. After losing the first set 3-6, she bounced back with a strong 7-5 win in the second and a 10-7 triumph in the third and final set. Brodsky also defeated Ortiz on Saturday, but she was able to put the junior away in straight sets.

Freshman Annie DiMuro put together wins seven and eight for Binghamton. After winning her first match in straight sets, the talented newcomer was able to outlast Niagara’s Sarah Hellstern with an impressive 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 win. With the win, she moves to 7-5 overall in singles action this season.

In addition to their stellar singles performances, DiMuro and Kohtz teamed up to win in A Flight doubles competition. The duo won 6-3 in a consolation match against the Purple Eagles.
