Cambridge, Mass.—Sophomore Selina Ng of the Binghamton swimming and diving team was named to the America East All-Academic squad earlier this week. Ng is just one of four BU swimmers or divers to make the conference’s All-Academic team, joining Imani Williams (2013), Jenna Easton (2012) and Amanda Ciccone (2011).
Ng, an accounting major from Farmingdale, N.Y., has been a standout in both the classroom and in the pool since arriving at Binghamton in 2012. In 2013-14, Ng won a total of five races for the Bearcats and continued to climb up the record books. She currently sits in sixth place all-time at BU in both the 100 fly (57.64) and 200 fly (2:09.17).
In the America East championships, Ng was a part of the bronze medal winning 400 medley relay team. She joined with Shannon Lampe, Corinne Zotter and Caitlin Kelly for a third-place finish and in the process shattered the previous school record with a time of 3:48.87.
Academic accolades she has garnered include America East Winter/Spring Honor Roll in 2013 and making the Binghamton AD Honor Roll (3.3 GPA and above) all three semesters at Binghamton. She boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.54 and is an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Selina joins a group of 11 other athletes who compete in the America East conference. 2014 America East champions New Hampshire led the way, earning five All-Academic nods.
All-Academic squads for team sports are based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time or are made up of 10 student-athletes for individual sports. To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration
