Six BU baseball players named all-stars in summer ball
League hits leader Bereszniewicz, two-time all-star Ciocchi highlight group

VESTAL, N.Y.—Midway through the summer season, six Binghamton baseball players earned all-star distinction in their respective leagues. Selected to compete in all-star games were junior first baseman Dave Ciocchi and freshman outfielder Bill Bereszniewicz in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, freshman shortstop John Howell and freshman outfielder Shaun McGraw in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, sophomore third baseman Jordon Smucker in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League and junior pitcher Lee Sosa in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League.
Ciocchi, who plays for Danbury, earned the honor for the second straight summer. He also was chosen to play for Team NECBL in their eye-opening 3-2 exhibition game win over Team USA at Fenway Park on June 27.
Bereszniewicz leads the entire league with 45 hits. Playing for Old Orchard Beach, he is hitting .378 and was chosen as a starter in the all-star game, set for July 27 in Lynn, Mass.
Howell and McGraw played in their all-star game on July 11 in Oneonta. McGraw, who has four home runs and 22 RBI for Syracuse, went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the game. Howell, who is hitting .373 for Oneonta, also registered a hit.
Smucker is batting .360 and leads Herndon with 54 hits in 37 games. His Cal Ripken League South team posted a 5-3 win over the North squad in the all-star game Tuesday night in Bethesda, Md.
Sosa pitched a pair of 1-2-3 innings and topped 90 mph in his Atlantic Coast Baseball League all-star game on July 11 in Brooklyn. He owns a 1.38 ERA and has 16 strikeouts in 14.1 innings for Lehigh Valley.
