The Binghamton softball program has announced its incoming class for the 2013 season. All seven student-athletes signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the squad as freshmen this coming fall.
“We are very excited about the incoming class this year,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “It is a balanced group that will help us on all parts of the field- pitching, catching, infield and outfield. They bring both speed and power to our line-up and I expect the group will make an immediate impact. I am most excited about their character and all of them are committed to helping the program reach new heights.”
Stephanie Arneson (Davie, Fla.) is a pitcher/outfielder from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. She is a three-time all-county selection and was named third-team all-state at the Class 6A level as a junior. In addition, her travel ball team, the West Pines Diamond Dusters, qualified for the 2012 National Tournament.
Lisa Cadogan (Orange, Calif.) played both catcher and first base for Villa Park High School. She was a two-time all-league selection. Cadogan also played travel ball with the Irvine Sting 18 Gold team.
Savonna Connolly (Vestal, N.Y.) played in both the infield and outfield at nearby Vestal High School. She is a two-time, first-team all-conference selection and helped lead her squad to a pair of Metro championships. As a senior, she batted .424 and was the co-MVP of her squad. Connolly played travel ball with the Diamond Dusters.
Taylor Chaffee (Watkins Glen, N.Y.) is a catcher from Watkins Glen High School. As a senior, she was a second-team Class C All-State selection by the NYSSWA. Chaffee was also a three-time Odessa File Athlete of the Year during her high school career. On the travel ball level, she played with the T.C. Tremors.
Sydney Harbaugh (Cicero, N.Y.) played second base at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. She was a three-time All-Central New York selection, a three time Section III all-star and a five-time all-league honoree. As a senior, Harbaugh was a third-team Class AA All-State selection by the NYSSWA. In the summers, she played with the STPS Ponies.
Tiffany McIntosh (Temecula, Calif.) is a first baseman from Temecula Valley High School. She was named her team’s Offensive MVP in 2010, the same year it won the CIF championship. Currently, McIntosh is playing with the San Diego Legacy travel ball team.
Griffin McIver (Endicott, N.Y.) played first and second base as well as in the outfield at nearby Union-Endicott High School. In her senior season, she belted 10 home runs, batted .435. In addition, she helped lead her squad to the Section IV title in 2010 and 2011. McIver capped her career as a sixth-team All-State Class AA pick by the NYSSWA. She played travel ball with the Diamond Dusters.
Binghamton, which finished 22-29 in 2012, has won 20 or more games all three seasons since Burrell became the head coach. The Bearcats return five position starters and three pitchers from this past season’s squad and will begin play in their new softball complex starting in 2013.
