VESTAL, N.Y.—Junior outfielder Jessica Phillips and freshman shortstop Caitlyn Friis have earned America East All-Conference honors for the 2012 softball season. Phillips was named to the second team while Friis earned a spot on the all-rookie squad.
Phillips is named all-conference for the third consecutive year. She was also a second-team choice in 2010 before moving up to the first team last year. In her junior year, Phillips led the team in batting (.328), home runs (12) and RBI (25). She was named the America East Player of the Week on March 5 and will enter her final season with a program-record 41 career home runs and 99 career RBI.
“Jessica had another great year for us,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “She has been a constant for us and sometimes we take her consistency for granted. I would like for her and the rest of next year’s seniors to return to the post-season for their last year.”
Friis, meanwhile, started 48 games and finished the season with four home runs and 21 RBI. She is the seventh Binghamton player to earn all-rookie honors since 2009. Of that group, three of them have already gone on to earn all-conference honors
“Caitlyn stepped up for us on the field and I beleive she has a great future ahead of her,” Burrell said. “She came up with some clutch hits and made a lot of really nice defensive plays to get us out of some tough situations this year.
Binghamton finished the 2012 season 22-29 and placed fifth in the America East with a 7-11 conference record.
