The Binghamton softball program has received a National Letter of Intent (NLI) from five high school standouts. All of them, who took part in the early signing period, will join the Bearcats as freshmen for the 2014-15 academic year.

Stephanie Bielec (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) is an infielder from Niagara Falls High School. She is a four-time All-NFL selection and was named honorable mention All-Western New York in 2013. Her travel ball team is the New Era, which is coached by Ray Hennessy.

Jillian Bovitt (Philadelphia, Pa.) is an infielder from Nazareth Academy. She is a four-year starter who has been named first-team All-Academies. Bovitt’s travel ball team is the New Jersey Nightmare, which is coached by Brian Kalesse.

Sarah Miller (Benbrook, Texas) is a pitcher/infielder from Brewer High School. She is a two-time all-district and three-time academic all-district selection. Her travel ball team is the Texas Mizuno Impulse, which is coached by Alex Loyoza.

Kate Richard (Lincoln, Del.) is an infielder from Milford High School.  She was named first-team all-conference and second-team all-state as a junior. Her travel ball team is the Delaware Diamonds, which is coached by Gerald Jester.

Jessica Rutherford (Horseheads, N.Y.) is an outfielder from Horseheads High School. She was named fourth-team all-state as a junior by the NYSSWA. Her travel ball team is the New York Diamond Dusters, which is coached by Bill Hampton and whose former players include current Bearcats Jessica Bump and Griffin McIver.

“I could not be more excited about this class,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “They are a diverse group that will provide the depth and experience needed to help our program compete for championships. They all have played competitive travel ball schedules and are familiar with playing for championships with their high school or travel ball programs. I am most excited about the character and work ethic of this group. I am confident that they will represent our University in a positive way and am looking forward to the impact they will have on our softball program.”

Binghamton went 30-17 in 2013 and opens up the 2014 campaign at the South Florida Tournament Feb. 14-16.
