Softball team loses 10-2 to host team in final day of Florida Gulf Coast Tournament
Eagles end game with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning

FORT MYERS, Fla.—Emily Lanier and Kayla Gabel each drove in a pair of runs, leading the host Eagles (4-6) to a 10-2, five-inning win over Binghamton (2-3) in the final day of the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament. The loss was the third straight for the Bearcats.
Lanier belted a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning as the Eagles took a quick 3-0 lead. Sophomore third baseman Chelsey Locatell, however, trimmed the deficit to 3-2 when doubled in a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the wheels came off for the Bearcats, who committed three errors and surrendered the final seven runs of the game. Gabel had both of her RBI courtesy of a two-running double during that frame.
Shelby Morgan got the win, improving her record to 3-1. Junior pitcher Rhoda Marsteller was tagged with the loss and is now 1-2.
Binghamton heads to the Texas Tech Tournament March 2-4.
NOTES: Freshman shortstop Caitlyn Friis batted a team-best .429 during the tournament while sophomore first baseman Mikala King hit .412 and drove in four runs. Locatell finished the tournament with a home-run and a team-best six RBI.
