VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton student-athletes kept their impressive string of consecutive 3.0 grade-point averages intact with another strong showing in the 2012 spring semester. The University’s 403 student-athletes achieved a 3.09 GPA - the 13th straight semester they have eclipsed the 3.0 threshold.
Twelve teams surpassed the 3.0 mark, led by the women’s soccer team (3.48), which captured the department’s Academic Cup for maintaining the highest semester GPA among the 21 sports. The women’s soccer team grabbed the crown from the men’s tennis team, which had its string of three straight Cups snapped despite posting a lofty 3.38 GPA.
Sixty-two percent of BU’s athletes (251) achieved a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher and 43 percent had a 3.3 or above.
A total of 13 individuals spanning nine different sports produced a perfect 4.0 for the spring semester.
Since Binghamton elevated to NCAA Division I competition in Fall 2001, its student-athletes have hit the 3.0 GPA mark in 19 of 22 semesters.
