Vestal, N.Y.—Senior Mike Surdey was awarded with America Sky Player of the Week Thursday, September 29th for his outstanding play last weekend at the Cornell Invitational. Surdey, lead the Bearcats to a first place team finish and third straight championship at Cornell. With an even-par performance through the 54-hole event, Surdey recorded his career-best finish by placing runner-up alongside fellow teammate sophomore Paul Andrews in a field of 75 individuals.
Surdey’s rounds of 73, 71 and 72 certainly showed a consistent style of play, leading the 14 team field with 40 pars over the weekend. His 54-hole total of 216 (E) is five shots ahead of his previous career-high which he accumulated during last season’s Cornell Invitational.
“Our team was very excited for Mike and his conference player of the week award,” head coach Bernie Herceg said. “As one of our captains this season, it’s great to see his consistent scoring and leadership on display. He’s really been striking the ball very well this year and he’s starting to gain some of his confidence back on the putting green.”
Surdey and the Bearcats return to action October 8th in Philadelphia to take part in the Big 5 Invitational hosted by Temple University.
