VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior forward Sherae Swinson has been named the America East women’s basketball Player of the Week. It marks the first time in her career that she has earned the conference’s weekly accolade.
Swinson finished with a game-high and season-high 19 points and team-best six rebounds in Binghamton’s 56-51 win over UMass in the opening round of the Dartmouth/Blue Sky Classic on Sunday. She netted 13 of her points in the second half, including three free throws in the final 90 seconds to ice the game.
“Sherae played great for us yesterday,” head coach Nicole Scholl said. “She came through for us in the second half and made some big free throws to finish the game.”
For the season, Swinson is averaging a career-best 11.3 points per game. A third-team all-conference selection as a sophomore, she has now reached double figures a team-best six times this season.
Binghamton (2-10) faces La Salle today at 5 p.m. in the final round of the Dartmouth/Blue Sky Classic.
