Track teams lead America East Indoor Championships After Day One

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Camille Ginyard and sophomore Christy DiMichele tied for first in the women’s pole vault, highlighting Binghamton’s performance in the opening day of the America East Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday at the Reggie Lewis Center. The Bearcat men lead the eight-team field with 52.5 points while the women are also first with 50.5 points.

Ginyard and DiMichele each cleared 11-9 and remained tied after two rounds of jump-offs. For Ginyard, it marks the second year in a row she has taken top honors in the indoor pole vault. Ginyard and DiMichele were high school teammates at nearby Vestal High School.

Elsewhere on the women’s side, junior Jessica Goldberg was second in the pentathlon (3,276 points) while fellow junior Alexis Murray was third in the long jump (17-11 ¾).

On the men’s side, senior Adam Helman was second in the pole vault (16-2) while freshman Joe Miceli was third (14-9). Senior Vasili Papastrat was third in the 5,000 (14:49.47) and senior Jacob Platel was third in the weight throw (55-10).

The America East Indoor Track & Field Championships conclude Tuesday.

NOTE: Ginyard now has won three conference pole vault titles. She also won the 2012 outdoor crown.
