WEST POINT, N.Y.—The Binghamton track & field teams posted 11 first-place finishes en route to runner up performances in both the men’s and women’s competition at the Army 5-Way Outdoor Meet on Saturday afternoon. The host Black Knights won both the men’s and women’s meets.

On the men’s side, junior Adam Helman won the pole vault with an IC4A-qualifying height of 15-9. Senior Chris Veney captured the long jump (22-4 1/4), junior Greg Feathers took top honors in the discus (57-3), senior Colin Anderson won the hammer (169-0) and junior Casey Gilbert was first in the 400 hurdles (53.69).

Leading the Bearcat women was senior Kaitlin Sullivan, who won the 100 hurldes (14.48) and ran the second leg of the winning 4x400 relay team. Also among the winning quartet were junior Jessica Hennig as well as sophomores Erika Kisel and Kathleen Klein.

Sophomore Camille Ginyard was first in the pole vault (11-7 3/4), senior Jessica Conter won the 100 (14.48) and fifth-year senior Nandi Dozier-Lewis took the triple jump (36-6 3/4). Sophomore Alexis Murray was second in the javelin but smashed her own school record with a distance of 130-3. She set the old mark of 125-6 last season.

The majority of the Binghamton distance runners were at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic this past weekend. The two-day meet concluded Sunday afternoon and did not have team scoring.

Freshman Jesse Garn won the men’s 800 with a time of 1:49.16, edging out fifth-year senior Erik van Ingen (who was second in 1:49.17) in the process. Fellow freshman Cal Michaels was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:15.64).

In the men’s 10,000, juniors Vasili Papastrat and Jason Santos both met the IC4A qualifying standard. Papastrat with 12th overall in a time of 30:39 while Santos was 17th overall in a time of 31:03. There were two heats and 74 runners overall in the men’s 10,000.

On the women’s side, junior Lindsay Raulli was sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a school-record time of 10:48.88. That breaks the previous record of 10:49.78 set by Lindsey Bohrer-Yardley in 2004.

Junior Rachel Miura was 14th overall in the women’s 10,000 (34:36).
