WEST POINT, N.Y.—Under blustery weather conditions, the Binghamton track & field teams launched their 2012 outdoor season with six individual winners at the West Point Invitational this weekend. There was no team scoring kept at the meet.
“The women performed very well,” head coach Mike Thompson said. “Most of our men took the week off but those who went also did well. It was a good showing considering the poor weather conditions.”
Junior Jessica Hennig, who last month won her third consecutive America East title in the women’s 400, took top honors in the same event on Saturday with a time of 58.10. Sophomore Camille Ginyard, who is the current America East Indoor pole vault champion, also won that event at West Point with a height of 11-5 3/4. The most impressive victory, however, was a three-second win by senior Kaitlin Sullivan in the 400 hurdles. Despite the poor conditions, she also posted a personal-best time of 1:03.60.
Elsewhere on the women’s side, junior Ashley AuPont won the high jump (5-5) and fifth-year senior Nandi Dozier-Lewis captured the triple jump (36-6 3/4).
Sophomore Chris Fernandez won the lone winner for the Bearcat men’s squad, winning the 800 in a time of 1:54.53. Senior Robb Quiller was second in the pole vault (16-0 3/4) but meet the IC4A qualifying standard in that event.
Up next for Binghamton is the April Outdoor Open at Cornell next Saturday.
