VESTAL, N.Y.—In the midst of an outstanding season, Binghamton wrestling snared two more conference honors for the month of December. Junior 149-pound Donnie Vinson was named the CAA co-Wrestler of the Month after going 10-2 and earning a pair of placewinner honors at the Penn State Nittany Lion Open and Reno Tournament of Champions. Freshman 141-pound Derak Heyman also was chosen as the CAA Rookie of the Month for his performance at the Penn State Open.
Vinson, ranked No. 7 in this week’s InterMat poll, is 19-3 this season. He was runnerup at the Penn State Open and went 4-1 to place fourth at the Reno Tournament. Vinson, a two-time NCAA qualifier, also notched a technical fall in a dual win over Princeton during that span. He is 7-0 in duals and has compiled six major decisions, two tech falls and four pins thus far this season. Vinson is 43-7 in career duals and is 78-22 overall in his three-year career.
Heyman, who is redshirting this season, earned the honor after winning four matches to place eighth at the Penn State Open. He won three straight decisions to reach the quarterfinals and then added another decision in the wrestlebacks.
The Bearcats (7-0), ranked No. 23, are off until facing Buffalo in a road dual on January 2.
