VESTAL, N.Y. - The BU volleyball program spent the afternoon at Binghamton City School District’s Roosevelt Elementary teaching a group of third, fourth and fifth graders the fundamentals of volleyball.

About ten players, along with assistant volleyball coach Rashinda Reed, used their knowledge of the sport to instruct 30 elementary students on the basics of volleyball. The children learned how to serve, dig and attack the way a Division I student-athlete would.

“We think it was great to have the BU volleyball team here today,” physical education teacher Ryan Woodford said. “The kids were initially unsure of what to expect, but when the team came through the doors they got really excited. The fact that Division I student-athletes are interacting with the children is such a positive thing and I think they will all take something away from today.”
