VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton junior women’s soccer defender and co-captain Connie Gormley is on the ballot for the America East Fans’ Choice Player of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon. Gormley joins selections from each of the nine member schools. The America East is conducting the contest on Facebook and Twitter. To vote for Gormley, click here.
Gormley has been a mainstay on BU’s back line her entire collegiate career. At center back, she has helped produce six shutouts and limited opponents to just 1.0 goals per game this season. Gormley’s booming free kicks have also provided a huge weapon to the offense. She has started all 15 games this season and 47 of 49 career games.
“‘Gorms’ is a soccer savvy player and a team leader,” head coach Sarah McClellan said. “She is so smooth on the ball and her ability to read the game is a great asset to our back line. “We ask a lot from her in organizing and coordinating players around her and she’s done a fantastic job this season.”
The Bearcats head to Lowell for a key Thursday night road game against the conference-newcomer River Hawks. Binghamton then concludes the regular season by hosting Vermont on Senior Day this Sunday.
