The game concluded the Bearcats’ second trip to the ASU Classic in nine seasons.

Binghamton appeared to be in control of the game, as it took a 54-47 lead with 7:26 remaining in regulation. From there, however, UNLV went on a 10-0 run in a span of 4:24 to go up 57-54 with 3:02 left to go. Miller had four points during that stretch.

Down 58-56 with 18 seconds left in regulation, Binghamton had a chance to win or force overtime. Before they could get off a shot, however, the Bearcats committed a costly turnover with seven seconds left to go.

“It was a tough loss,” head coach Nicole Scholl said. “We played very well in spurts, especially at the start of the second half, but we need to learn how to finish out a game.”

Freshman forward Morgan Murphy led the Bearcats with 16 points. Sophomore forward Sherae Swinson added 13 points and junior guard Jasbriell Swain finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and a career-high eight assists.

Binghamton fought back from an early 13-7 deficit, going on an 8-2 run in a span of 2:46 to tie the game at 15-15 with 15:18 left in the first half. Senior forward Kara Elofson had four points during that spurt.

With the game tied at 21-21, however, the Running Rebels went on a 7-2 run in a span of 2:52 to take a 28-23 lead with 5:35 left in the first half.  Cezarz led the way with four points during that span.

Down 37-31 at the break, the Bearcats stormed out of the gate with a 12-2 run in the opening 5:40 of the second half to go up 43-39. Murphy and Swinson each had four points during that run. From there, Binghamton held the lead until UNLV’s decisive run late in the game.

Swinson and Elofson each added eight rebounds.

The Bearcats travel to Buffalo next Saturday for a 5 p.m. game.

NOTES: Swain’s previous career high of seven assists was set against Lehigh on Dec. 5, 2010 … Murphy has now reached double figures in scoring three times this season … Binghamton’s previous trip to the ASU Classic came during the 2003-04 campaign.
