Women’s Basketball rallies for 58-53 win at New Mexico
Bearcats erase nine-point deficit in final seven minutes of regulation

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Visiting Binghamton (1-4) rallied from a nine-point deficit in the second half to defeat New Mexico (2-4) 58-53 on Friday night at the Pit in the opening round of the Lobos’ Women’s Basketball Thanksgiving Tournament. The Bearcats will face Arkansas on Saturday night at 7 p.m. EST in the championship round.
Things looked grim for the Bearcats when Antiesha Brown hit a jumper to give the Lobos a 48-39 lead with 6:22 left in regulation. From there, however, the Bearcats responded with a 12-3 run to deadlock the game at 51-51 with 3:29 left to go. Sophomore guard Kim Albrecht, who finished with 15 points, sank the game-tying shot.
With the score tied at 53-53, sophomore guard Kandace Newry drained a three-point field goal with 27 seconds left, giving the Bearcats the lead for good. Making her first start of the season, she finished with seven points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Senior guard Vaneeshia Paulk iced the game by converting a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left.
Junior forward Sherae Swinson led all scorers with 18 points.
Sara Halasz led New Mexico with 14 points while Brown finished with 12 points.
